Blood Car (2007) Review

“Blood Car” is a 2007 American independent horror comedy film written and directed by Alex Orr. The film stars Mike Bruneau, Amanda Fuller, and Joshua Leonard. It premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 10, 2007.

The film tells the story of a man who invents a car that runs on human blood. When the government tries to shut down his operation, he takes matters into his own hands.

A nice little indie flick we got here, a movie with boobs, gore and a surprisingly solid storyline to boot. This is a really low budget endeavor and it shows. The movie’s production levels aren’t what you’d call stellar but being an indie flick they never would be.

There is a lot of subtext going here as well, as to the sociological status of owning one’s own car, as well as how much temptation can one stand before caving in on their principles? Don’t misunderstand however, Blood Car is not what you’d call a high brow flick, it’s laden with goofiness and general crassness and is an all round fun movie.

In terms of acting quality I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, though I did think Mike Brune put in decent performance in the main part of Archie. His fall from grace is done with a nice amount subtleness and comedy to make it stand out well. As for the rest of the cast – yeah they’re OK I guess but nothing amazing.

Gore is present, though it’s mostly depicted as red fluid flying around, a lot of what’s ‘going on in the boot’ is left to your imagination. This actually works quite well and was probably a wise decision on the filmmakers part with respect to the movie’s budget.

Blood Car has lots of nudity and sex, I mean lot’s! So if seeing hot mama’s naked is what your looking for you’ll find it here.

Initially the movie is quite slow, it takes a little while for the ball to start rolling, though when the death count starts to stack up it doesn’t relent, all the way to the movie’s surprising and somewhat beguiling conclusion.

Indeed this is one movie I’d say is well worth a watch, just remember it’s an indie flick – don’t expect anything flash. Saying that, if you don’t mind low production values I’d say this is one car worth jumping in!

“Blood Car” is a fun and gory ride. The acting is campy and the special effects are impressive. The plot is over-the-top, but that’s part of the fun. If you’re a fan of horror films, or just looking for a good laugh, check out “Blood Car.”
