2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (2010) Review

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is a 2010 American horror comedy film directed by Tim Sullivan and starring Robert Englund, Lin Shaye, Bill Moseley, and Nivek Ogre. It is a sequel to the 2005 film 2001 Maniacs, and was followed by another sequel, 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillys, in 2016.

The film follows a group of tourists who are stranded in the backwoods of Georgia after their bus breaks down. They are taken in by the residents of a small town called Pleasant Valley, who turn out to be a group of cannibalistic lunatics. The tourists are then brutally murdered one by one in a series of gory and creative ways.

2001 maniacs: FoS, is a hoot and half, filled with blood, guts, boobs and loads of dark humour from beginning to end. Firstly, Bill Moseley is superb (as always) as Mayor Buckman and pulls of the dark, dry humour brilliantly. Christa Campbell looks damn lush as the milkmaid and also manages to put in a fine performance to boot. Nivek Ogre (Industrial fans will know him) is great as Harper Alexander, an all round psycho, not shy about cutting pretty young things to pieces. Great stuff.

There is loads of gore in FoS, tonnes of it and gratuitously so. It’s a quirky tongue in cheek kinda flick that never takes itself seriously, it’s really geared toward laughs more than frights. Which is good, cause to be honest this flick didn’t frighten me in the slightest. If your looking for a serious piece of horror your definitely on the wrong page, cause all you’ll get here is a good beer drinking movie that’s gonna be better watching with a bunch of buddies.

It does seem to be a bit slow at the odd moments here and there and most the TV reality crew folks are down right uninteresting. They really only exists as play things for the Maniacs to have their fun, which is good. In fact it’s a shame more reality TV stars weren’t treated like this in reality lol.

Lots of nudity and sexual innuendo in this flick also.. Who’s gonna complain about that? Not me. Always good to show a little bit of skin and 2001 Manics don’t disappoint. So, yeah 2001 Maniacs: FoS is recommended although like i said before, it’s not a serious flick, best to be approached like a comedy i guess, except with blood. Lot’s of it.

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is a fun and gory horror comedy that will please fans of the genre. The acting is campy and over-the-top, and the kills are creative and gruesome. Englund is a hoot as the town’s mayor, and Moseley and Ogre are a riot as the town’s deranged residents. If you’re a fan of horror comedies, then this is one you’ll want to check out.

Synopsis

The film begins with a group of tourists driving through the backwoods of Georgia on their way to visit an historic site. They are stopped by a group of rednecks who claim that their car has broken down and they need help. The tourists are then taken to a remote farmhouse where they are made to feel welcome.

However, it quickly becomes apparent that the rednecks are not what they seem. They are actually a group of murderous psychopaths who take pleasure in torturing and killing their victims. The tourists are subjected to a horrific ordeal, and it seems that there is no escape for them.

However, one of the tourists, a young woman named Ashley, manages to fight back and kill one of the rednecks. She then takes refuge in the farmhouse and starts to plot her escape.

The film culminates in a bloody showdown between Ashley and the remaining rednecks. She manages to kill them all, but not before sustaining serious injuries herself. In the end, she is the only survivor of the ordeal.
