“Night of the Creeps” is an American horror movie released in 1986. The movie follows a group of college friends who are stalked by an alien race of zombies. The movie was written and directed by Fred Dekker and stars Jason Lively, Steve Marshall, and Jill Whitlow.
Night of the Creeps is bubblegum stuff but damn it’s good fun. It’s a genuinely funny movie in parts. The cast is brilliant, never taking things too seriously, but serious enough to make it suspenseful when the movie wants to be. Actors Jason Lively and Steve Marshall are awesome as Chris and JC and capture the frustration and banality of nerdy college kids trying to cut it in a jocks world. In a lot of ways NotC’s reminds me of the old 80’s college comedies like Revenge of the Nerds, Porky’s, etc. Except this movie is more horror centric. I wanna note that i think Tom Atkins does his performance proud in this one and i can’t help but keep my sides from splitting at some of the one liners. Great stuff!
The creature effects are sweet, certainly for their day and still look quite gruesome here in 2010. This is definitely not a movie for people who hate slugs, or then maybe it is.. If you don’t mind getting creeped out. The gore is sweet, some definite memorable scenes, i won’t spoil anything major but expect body parts to split open and plenty of blood… Just the way we like it.
So if you haven’t guessed by now, Night of the Creeps comes as a solid triple AAA+ recommendation. It’s without question one of the more fun horror movies that emerged out of the 1980’s and no self respecting horror fan can go without seeing it. Plain and simple. Get it!… In bluray preferably of course 😉
“Night of the Creeps” is a fun and entertaining horror movie. The acting is good, the characters are likable, and the story is interesting. The movie is also very funny, with many humorous moments. The movie does have its share of gore and violence, but it is not excessive. Overall, “Night of the Creeps” is a great horror movie and is highly recommended.
Synopsis
The year is 1959. Two teenage boys, J.C. and Brad, break into a cemetery to steal a corpse for a fraternity prank. They are caught by the police and taken to the local police station.
At the police station, they are interrogated by Detective Ray Cameron. Cameron is a hard-boiled detective who is investigating a series of murders that have been occurring around the city. The boys are released and told to stay out of trouble.
However, the next day, Brad is attacked by a creature that comes out of his mouth. The creature is a slug-like creature that burrows into its victim’s brain and controls their actions. J.C. and Brad realize that the creatures are aliens who are using the corpses to create an army of zombies.
The boys team up with Cameron to stop the aliens. They first go to the fraternity house to warn the other students. However, the creatures have already taken over the fraternity house and are using the students as hosts for their eggs. The boys and Cameron fight their way through the hordes of zombies and make it to the roof.
The aliens are about to launch their ship and leave Earth. Cameron, J.C., and Brad fight the aliens and destroy their ship. With the aliens gone, the zombies revert back to their human form.
The film ends with J.C. and Brad being hailed as heroes.
