“The Rage” is a 2007 American horror film directed by Robert Kurtzman. Mad professor type – played by Andrew Divoff, who I’ll still always see as the Wishmaster – experiments on unwilling victims to create a Rage virus. Said Rage virus makes inhuman killing machines with a taste for blood and extreme violence. Then virus gets out, vultures get infected, go all weird and bitey – then harass Erin Brown and her assorted party going friends.
The keyword to all of this movie is fun, or should I say Fun with a capital F. It’s got that magic ingredient that so many films today completely forget – it’s fun, it doesn’t give a shit, it just sets out to be entertaining and spray loads of the red stuff around. There’s no hidden message, deep plot, attempt to be the best film ever, just a film that dares to have a laugh and dares you not to get on board and come along for a roller coaster ride of bloody, lighthearted mayhem.
Everyone in the cast is great, they may not all be the best of actors, but it sure seems that they were having great fun making the movie, and this shows on screen. It fits right in with the lighthearted approach, and any technical ‘mistakes’ are covered and more than compensated for simply because it’s all such great fun, you don’t want anything to spoil that.
What more can I really say other than it is huge fun from beginning to end? There are lots of deaths, pretty graphic in comical style, a few naked ladies, and just tonnes of scenes that are going to stick in your head as good, entertaining moments of trash horror cinema. The vultures attacking the camper van, Gor the Humongous, the foul mouthed midget, it’s classic! Watch now!
However, “The Rage” is not a perfect film. Its plot is somewhat simplistic and predictable, and the film’s ending is rather abrupt. Nevertheless, “The Rage” is an entertaining and suspenseful horror film that is worth checking out.
