Final Destination 3 (2006) Review

Final Destination 3 is the third installment in the Final Destination franchise. The movie follows the same formula as the previous two movies, with a group of friends cheating death and then being pursued by death. However, Final Destination 3 is a more suspenseful and gore-filled movie than its predecessors.

The movie opens with a group of high school students attending a roller coaster ride. However, one of the students, Wendy, has a premonition that the roller coaster will crash. She manages to get herself and her friends off the ride before it crashes, but in the process, they anger death. Death then starts to pick off the students one by one.

Final Destination 3 doesn’t deviate too much from the formula of the first 2 movies, perhaps not a bad thing, if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it yeah? There is enough new twists in this one to keep if fresh for those that haven’t seen it however. The characters are the usual mix of teenage idiots, some more on the ball than others and you can probably tell straight off the bat who’s in for the chop and who isn’t… Although Final Destination movies are good at turning things on their head. Even though there is no real remarkable performances in the flick, the acting quality is in general decent. It’s exactly what you would expect from a movie like this.

The pacing of the movie also follows similarly to the original flicks. The way in which the death scenes are built up are brilliant, one inconsequential thing after another building up and coming together for the kill. It’s worked brilliantly in this flick and the feeling of doom is always there.

Final Destination movies have also built up a name for having some nasty gore and thankfully the third outing doesn’t disappoint in this regard. Some really nasty scenes. I don’t want to spoil anything for you so i won’t go into details but man the assortment of different deaths is cool. Since death is almost personified in this movie (not so much a person but more a force, as is stated in the flick), you kinda get the feeling it’s mighty pissed off about being cheated.

So for those who loved the first two movies (or even the fourth), you’ll no doubt love Final Destination 3. Those of you who haven’t seen a FD flick yet, then you’d probably be best to check out number 1 first. So finally, I’m gonna give Final Destination 3 a thumbs up and a deserved recommendation. Great gore and suspense await those brave enough to watch!

Final Destination 3 is a suspenseful and gory movie that is sure to please fans of the franchise. The movie is well-directed and the acting is good. However, the movie is not for the faint of heart.
