The Deadly Spawn (1983) Review

The Deadly Spawn (1983) is a low-budget horror movie about a group of friends who encounter a deadly alien creature. The movie was directed by Douglas McKeown and stars John Amplas, Charles Cyphers, and Tom DeSimone.

The movie was not well-received by critics and was a box office bomb. However, it has since gained a cult following.

If aliens existed would they look like weird maggots or shrivelled dicks full of razor sharp teeth? Well, after crashing to earth in a scene that looks like it was made by stop motion filming some pre-school kids cardboard homework project, they do here. Then, the crawling tooth packed cocks – some the size of a house, others small and shrivelled like a cock in a snowstorm – eat people.

There. That says it all. Of course, the people would rather not be eaten, and they’d like to find a way to stop the murderous martian dildos. You’ve heard it a thousand times before.

The acting is crap, the special effects are crap, the plot is crap – but the film is kinda fun, at least if you’re a sci-fi/horror buff with masochistic tendencies who likes to suffer.

Watch drunk and it’s good, honest shit that is kind of enjoyable and is more fun than it has any right to be.

The movie is campy and cheesy, but it is also a lot of fun. The creature effects are impressive for a low-budget movie, and the acting is not bad. If you’re a fan of old-school horror movies, then you’ll probably enjoy The Deadly Spawn.

Synopsis

The Deadly Spawn is a 1983 American horror film directed by Douglas McKeown and starring John Alcott, Charles George Hildebrandt, and Tom DeFrancesco. The film follows a group of teenagers who, after a meteorite crash near their home, are terrorized by an alien creature that begins to pick them off one by one.

The film opens with a meteorite crashing near a small town in New Jersey. A group of teenagers, including Mike, Debbie, and Reggie, go to investigate the crash site and find a small, slug-like creature. They take the creature home with them, not knowing that it is an alien life form.

The creature, which they name “Bub”, begins to grow at an alarming rate. Soon, it is large enough to start killing animals and, eventually, people. The teenagers realize that they must kill Bub before it can kill anymore innocent people.

They lure Bub into a trap and succeed in killing it. However, they soon realize that there are more of the creatures, and that they are now faced with an even greater threat.

The teenagers must now band together to survive as the creatures begin to pick them off one by one. They must use all of their ingenuity and courage to defeat the aliens and save their town from these deadly creatures.
