Synopsis

The Long December follows the lives of several characters in the small town of Shepherdstown, West Virginia during the month of December. The town is experiencing a prolonged cold snap and the residents are struggling to cope.

The film opens with a scene of a young boy, Billy, sledding down a hill. He loses control of the sled and crashes into a tree. His mother rushes him to the hospital where he is treated for a concussion.

Meanwhile, the town’s only doctor, Dr. Joe, is dealing with a patient who is in the late stages of cancer. The patient, Mrs. Miller, is not expected to live much longer. Dr. Joe is also dealing with the town’s dentist, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

The town’s sheriff, Hank, is dealing with a series of break-ins. He is also trying to find time to spend with his wife, who is dealing with her own issues.

The town’s mayor, Matt, is dealing with the town’s financial problems. He is also trying to find a way to save the town’s Christmas pageant, which is in danger of being cancelled.
